Can an Electric Fireplace Insert be Repaired?

Of course, electric fireplaces, stoves and inserts can be repaired! If repairs are ever needed, some can be handled by the homeowner and some should be performed by a qualified service tech.

If the remote control is not working, it’s likely time to replace the batteries! Probably the most common service call is related to dim flames or none at all, or the ember bed not glowing. The LED lights are likely burned out and need to be replaced.

If there’s power to the unit and the appliance will not come on with the switch or remote, probably one of two scenarios : The appliance has overheated and the temperature sensor has caused the thermal switch to disconnect, or the circuit board is shot and needs to be replaced.

If the flame is sputtering or there’s no heat, wiring may be loose or the flame motor or heater and fan assembly may need attention.

So, yes electrics can be repaired. A comprehensive list of replacement parts is in the owner’s manual. Joseph G. Bodden is a Wisconsin native and is semi-retired after 40+ years in marketing, sales and technical customer service work. Over 28 of those years have been in the fireplace industry, many as the Hearth Division Manager in an organization that operates two retail shops.       Colleen: It's tough to troubleshoot something like this through an email. You did not mention the brand of fireplace you have and I did not recognize the model number. I think my best suggestion would be to call your nearest dealer and describe the problem in detail to them. My hunch is a service call would be in order to determine exactly what the problem is before making a decision on replacing the fireplace. If a replacement is in the cards, they would be able to find something that would be workable in the same space as the old unit. Or, perhaps an opportunity to relocate the fireplace to another location in the room? Good luck & hope this helps. Joe

      Beverly, thank you for your question. The odor you're smelling could be dust and/or pet hair that has accumulated near the heating element. Clean it thoroughly by vacuuming, dusting and cleaning around the heating element and fan. Afterwards, if something still seems to smell and doesn't seem right, by all means DO NOT use the fireplace until it can be professionally inspected and cleaned.

Do you know of any local repair shops (Torrance, CA) that could check my Zokop SF122--26A electric fireplace insert ? All I get is a EE flashing when I switch it on. I'd hate to throw away a barely used two year old fireplace.

      Mikel: Thank you for your message. I hope the original remote turns up soon. But, if not a couple of thoughts: If there is an access panel, either top or bottom, a model number will likely be located there. If not, take a couple pictures of the fireplace and send it to your nearest We Love Fire dealer. They may be able to identify it or help figure out if your remote might be able to be replaced.

A certified fireplace tech can diagnose and analyze what's happened and suggest solutions . . . in this case, perhaps replacing the mother board?
